Shops & businesses

There were a few internet cafes to choose from on Ambergris Caye, mostly in town, but this one was my favorite. It's a tiny shack painted bright green inside, with awesome hand-painted internet icons on the building and sign. It's on stilts and when people walk around inside the whole building rocks. The owner is very friendly, the rates are reasonable, and the computers (a row of newer-looking laptops) are pretty decent.

Here's the inside:

^This is where I did most of my grocery shopping. They had a pretty good variety of food compared to most other places on the island, but it wouldn't stand up to even the smallest mom & pop store in the U.S.

^Numerous people told me not to go to the supermarkets, so I didn't. Apparently they have a much larger variety of food but the prices are outrageous.

I did a little bit of grocery shopping at La Divina Providencia, which was a bit closer to the resort. It's smaller than Nasser, and they didn't have as much veg food. Here are some pictures of the inside:

^Most soda comes in glass bottles, and I think all of it has real sugar instead of HFCS. Everywhere you look beverage trucks are rattling down the bumpy brick roads.

^I don't know how anyone could ride this, or even push it.

^The tiny public library was right on the beach in town.

^If you look at this picture closely you can see two dogs sleeping in the shade in the foreground. It's a massage/day spa located on a pier.
