^Queen Elizabeth II appears on all the currency--even though Belize gained independence in 1981, they have a combination constitiutional monarchy/parliamentary democracy, and Elizabeth II is the monarch.
The exchange rate is tied to the U.S. dollar at $2BZ=$1US, and they have coin denominations of 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents and $1 (although for some reason I never saw any 10-cent or 50-cent pieces.) The smallest denomination of paper money is $1, then $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 (again, I never saw any $1 bills.) The dollar coins are big and heavy, and the five-cent coins are light and feel like aluminum. Bills are brightly colored and feature national symbols, landmarks, etc. like Maya ruins, the keel-billed toucan, black orchid, mahogany tree and tapir.
^I found one old 25-cent piece that says "British Honduras" (the country's British colonial name) where they now say "Belize."
