Lizards of Ambergris Caye

This is Gloppy the iguana. S/he lives in a hole under cabana #9, just a few doors away, and I saw her/him out on the walkway eating ants just about every day.

I was surprised to see Jesus Lizards (basilisks) all over the place. They stand up and run on their hind legs whether they're on water or land, even when they're running up a tree.

There were also a large variety of geckos and anoles.

Leaf-toed geckos are very soft, fast, hardly pigmented, and come out only in the dark. They like to hang out on lamps and indoors--they live in the ceiling at the cabana. When I had the ant problem I went out and caught more of them and let them loose inside rather than spraying pesticide.

There were iguanas everywhere.

^This is the biggest, fattest one I saw. It was still very fast though.
