Getting there & back; views from the plane

These are a few shots of my first glimpses of Belize, on the way to the international airport. I went from Boise through Denver, Houston, Belize, then a short hop to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Took a little over 10 hours with layovers.

Philip S. Goldson International Airport:

The "gates" are all just doors that you walk through, then walk up stairs to the planes. Security is pretty minimal--however, they do make you take off your shoes. It's also quite small. This is pretty much the entire terminal:

In the airport I noticed a sign for "Waving Gallery"...I went to explore, expecting art, but it was actually a caged area where people could go and wave at departing planes:
^This is the small plane I took from the airport to San Pedro. It was bigger than the one I rode home, but still tiny, less than ten seats including the pilots. It's about a 20 minute ride, very low to the ground, very scenic.

^View from the plane of a residential area south of San Pedro.
In this picture you can just barely see the resort where I stayed, Royal Caribbean Resort (RCR):
There are two airlines that make hourly trips from the island to the mainland: Maya Island Air and Tropic Air. I rode Tropic Air both times. They had a new airport in San Pedro, very small but nice, with a neat aquarium:
Maya Island had sort of a run-down looking airport:

There was no security at all in the airport in San Pedro. Making a reservation consisted of me telling them where and when I wanted to go--no I.D. required. No baggage scans or metal detectors. And this was my boarding pass:

I took a video of the entire flight back, but it's a huge file, so I'll have to chop it up a bit before posting it.
